These investments protect sensitive cold-chain operations from unannounced outages, which can ruin export-quality fruit within hours. Furthermore, capital expenditure tax incentives for renewable energy infrastructure have shortened the payback period for these systems to under four years. Farm managers now view energy generation as a core asset, reducing exposure to municipal tariff hikes while simultaneously lowering the carbon footprint of South African produce heading into stringent international markets.
